Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Award
Altoona, IA—Iowa State University Polk County Extension is a proud recipient of two Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grants totaling $12,000.
With the help from Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grant award, the Polk County Master Gardeners are preparing to install sculptures of beneficial insects in and throughout the Enabling Garden. The Enabling Garden is a garden for all people of all ages and abilities. Designed appropriately with no physical barriers citizens can meander throughout the garden with ease. With a desire to share and educate our community on the significance of these beneficial insects.
Local artist will erect the sculptors and signage will be added so citizens may learn to identify them, as well as reasons why we want to attract and not scare away these very essential insects to our home gardens.
The Adventure Learning Center will be rejuvenating and expanding the Adventure in Leadership program. Adventure in Leadership offers community members an opportunity to learn the qualities and importance of good leadership, by increasing trust, communication, decision making, and problem solving skills within the team.
Each Adventure in Leadership program will follow-up with a community service learning project which can be done alone or in collaboration with Reach out Iowa or Youth Venture Dream It. Do It.
